If you didn’t attend the Crab

AND ALL THE VOLUNTEERS DID A GREAT JOB. It takes a lot of work before, during
and after each event and my hat is off to all who helped.
The next day the Post
conducted the Patriots Day Ceremony [9/11].
Again I want to thank all who attended and those who conducted the
ceremony. It has been four years since that
terrible day; it is a day of remembrance.
I think we are starting to forget what happened that day with such a
small turnout for the ceremony.

Message
From the 1st Vice
Fellow
Legionnaires join me in strengthening our post and organization by mobilizing
to increase our membership. We currently have 389 paid members and in order to
become a Four Star Post this year we require 250 more members to pay their dues
in order to reach this goal. I ask all
of you to send in your dues, remind other legionnaires, and invite fellow
veterans who are eligible to become members of the American Legion to join Post
175. They can go to our web page “www.legionpost175.org” and fill out the application,
call the post for one, or even better come in to fill out an application.
Remember they need their DD-214 and cash or check (made payable to American
Legion Post #175) in the amount of $26.00, which is required with the
application for processing. We need every member’s participation to ensure the
American Legion’s success.
I want to Thank all of the members who
have paid their dues early and let everyone know that our Commander has
instructed me to keep the EARLY BIRD BULL AND OYSTER ROAST ticket price the
same as last year. Even with everything going up in price, Dan McDonald clearly
believes that this event is in appreciation of our members and refuses to allow
current conditions to impact the event. Therefore, the early bird tickets will
remain at an unheard of price of $20.00 and the Non-Early Bird tickets will
remain $25.00. The Early Bird Bull and
Oyster Roast will be on November 12th 2005 at 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
In addition to
the EARLY BIRD BULL AND OYSTER ROAST pricing remaining the same, we have open a
raffle window that include a Remington 870 12 gauge shot gun and a lot of other
hunting equipment. The raffle tickets are still only 1 for a dollar and 6 for
five dollars. If you could help distribute and sell some of them, or just would
like some mailed to you for purchase, contact the post and leave your number. I
will be glad to send them out to you.

From the 2 nd Vice
To all our
patrons participating in the Friday Night Dinners. I wish to thank all of you for making the
Friday Night Dinners a success. I would like to invite others to come and join
us for good food at a reasonable price. For those of you, who enjoyed the
dinners, please pass the word on to others. You may also want to stick around after
the dinner for the Friday evening music.
The SAL will be
doing Shrimp Night on the 1st and 3rd Fridays. The Legion will be doing dinners
on the 2nd and 5th Fridays and the Auxiliary will be doing dinners on the 4th
Fridays. The planned menu for the Legion dinners is as follows: 30 September,
Chicken or steak Stir Fry over rice. October 14, Southern Fried Steak, with
mashed potatoes and a vegetable. November 11, Meat Loaf Dinner. I wish all of
our Comrades to come and join us.
We are still
working on the drainage problem. I will come up with something to help raise
more money. We are short by several thousand dollars. If anyone would like to
make a donation to the project, please make check payable to the American
Legion Post #175 and mark in the Memo area - Drainage Problem Donation.

Message from the Adjutant
In my last article I stated my
job was to take care of the Post and it’s records. One of the most important
records of any veteran is his DD214 or any other form of discharge papers
showing proof of his or her service. I will shortly begin trying to obtain
these records from any member we don’t have records for here at the Post.
Please bear with me as I begin this process. Your patience will be greatly
appreciated and you will be helping yourself and the Post.

As of this
writing we have on our sick list Comrade Ralph Clarke who is recovering from
surgery. Also Chic Danley has not been
very well lately. Keep these comrades in
your prayers. Sadly we report that
Comrade Louis Adams was called to Post Everlasting. Our condolences to the Adams family. Our condolences also to the Martin family on
the passing of Bob’s sister-in-law.
Please remember
to let me know of anyone who is sick.
We just did our
9-11 ceremony and it was very moving.
Many thanks to all who participated and especially to the Auxiliary for
a great lunch. They always do a super
job and we owe them a great debt of gratitude.
We will pay our
respects to past and present veterans on Veterans Day, November 11, 2005. Make it a point to come join in on this. Thinking of Veterans, a special word runs across
my mind, a word not heard much anymore.
That word is HONOR. The West
Point motto is still DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY.
But I fear that things like honor and integrity are becoming foreign
words to us. The more prevalent attitude
these days is more the idea that the only things important are those things
good for me. In the Bible honor is due
first to God (Psalms 145:5); to parents (Exodus 20:12); to the elderly (I
Timothy 5:1); to the government (I Peter 2:17); and it is not for the fool
(Proverbs 26:1). Check it out.
On Veterans Day
and, every day we cherish the memory of those honorable comrades who have gone
on to receive their reward. As veterans
we know what honor is all about, we lived it.
May the next generation learn it well; it is the key to survival for our
nation. Happy Veterans Day, and may God
bless all of you.
Thought for the
Day: Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds
discuss people! Remember too that anger
is only one letter short of danger!
God Bless all of
You.

As of this writing,
September has been a healthy month for most of our members. However, others have not been as
fortunate. Condolences go out to the
family of our member Linda Parlier who recently passed away and to Alice Martin
and her family on the passing of her sister, Diane.
Please remember
those that are going through bad times due to the hurricanes. Lend your support to these displaced persons
not only through prayer but also with donations; either monetary, blood or
food. We hope that all will be back to
normal swiftly for them. Remember, also,
our men and women who are on foreign soil.
We pray that they will be safe and home soon.

I wish for all of
you to remain well and healthy. God

Aloha
Ladies
On
August 19th, I left for the Eighty-Fifth National convention held in
Honolulu, Hawaii. What a great week it
was! I had the honor to serve as
National Chairman of Pages. It was a
very busy week with many receptions and meetings to attend. I had the privilege to tour the USS Arizona
Memorial with the Maryland members of the Auxiliary, Legion, and S.A.L., who
laid several wreaths inside the monument.
I attended the National States Dinner where we were entertained by Wayne
Miller. He is a gold Medal winner at the
National Creative Arts Festival, which is held every year for our
Veterans. Our guest for the Past
Presidents luncheon was Barbara Mandrell, the American Legion Auxiliary’s 2005
Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. The
Maryland delegation had their picture taken with her. The week ended with the Installation of
National Officers for the coming year.
Returned home on September 1st with many great memories.
MEMBERSHIP: The Unit is doing very well in
membership. We now have two hundred and
eleven Early Birds. We still need one
hundred and fourteen to reach our goal so I need everyone’s help. Please send in your dues now and try to sign
up a new member.
BIINGO: On August 15th, bingo was held at
Future Care. We had fifteen residents play bingo with the help of eleven
volunteers, which included our new Legion member and his three children. Many thanks to everyone. Please call 410-757-1540 if you would like to
join us for an hour. Help is always
needed.

SAL NEWS
From
your Commander
Our Annual SAL
Crab Feast was a complete success. We would like to thank everyone who
purchased tickets, thanks for your support.
I would personally like to thank everyone who helped make this crab
feast a success and that’s the workers.
Thanks to Legion members A.J. Rush, Dan Jordan, Mike Helm and Charlie
Vane for all they did and Rick Digby and Bill (Banjo) Mayo for steaming crabs
and John Fuller for cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs. And of course we can’t forget our Auxiliary
who are always there to helps us have a successful event. Thanks to Liz Richard and Brenda Digby who were
right there in the pit helping steam crabs and to Roni Goughenour, Michele Jordan,
Rosemary Gurick and Paula Fuller for making all the wonderful food and to
Jackie Jordan, Brittany Jordan, Courtney Jordan, Pat Rabeau, and Patty Smith
for helping in the kitchen. SAL members
who were involved with the work party are Larry Doran, Randy Smith, Jerry
Heath, Shawn Rush, Jimmy Swing, Keith Jordan and a special thanks to Syd for
running the wheel the entire 5 hours.
Unfortunately, as you can see we had more Legion and Auxiliary help than
SAL. To the SAL members who didn’t
participate, it’s time to step up and get involved.
On a sadder note
our deepest sympathy goes out to our SAL member Jimmy Conley, who was a victim
of Hurricane Katrina. Jimmy and his
family are all physically ok, but lost everything to that horrible storm. His home and all of its contents are
gone. The SAL will be sending him a
donation to help him at this terrible time.
If you would like help by making a contribution, please call Mike Clutz
at 410-971-6177.
