Legionnaire News

From Your Commander

As I wrote my last newsletter article many things were happening at the Post. The most important was the election of new officers for the year 2003-2004 which I did not touch on, so at this time I would like to thank all of the officers who served with me for the year. Without your help I would not have had a successful term. Now as I take on another term, I have a fine new set of officers and I think many tasks around the Post will be accomplished. We started right off with a Memorial Day Service, then onto a Flag Day Service and before we knew it along came the Fourth of July. I was a little disappointed on this day as we did participate in the in the Fourth of July parade and the Post had hardly any showing at all on the sidelines. A fine "thank you" to Don Clatchey for the use of his car, Andre and Stacey Milot and John Fuller who also participated with their Corvette’s and drivers. Also a big thank you to Dan Jordan and team for a their fine job of cooking hamburgers and hotdogs on the Fourth.

After all these events it was off to Ocean City for the 85th Department of Maryland Convention, July 8-11. We arrived on July 7th at which time we attended the Southern Maryland District Fish Fry. On the 8th we attended classes pertaining to our various offices. On the 9th we attended the various committee and program speeches and that night we went to the Post Everlasting Services. On the 10th it was more Legion business, speeches by various officers and committees and in the evening the Parade was held. On the 11th it was more business and the Installation of newly elected Department Officers also I attended my first Department of Maryland Executive Committee Meeting. Much was learned about the Legion; it’s programs and how it functions. A special thank you to Charlie Vane for renting us his property at Fenwick Island.

Now onto business of the Post, this year I have several projects I would like to see accomplished.

A new sign at the entrance to the Legion

Reworking of the monument

Powerwashing of the building

Striping of the parking lot

Painting of the lounge

The Hall completed

Reworking the wall at the Hall entrance and landscaping.

These are a few of the many things I would like to see done, if you can help or have knowledge of someone who can please let me know. As I sign off, REMEMBER AS ALWAYS

Thank Our Veterans and remember them in your prayers.

Buddy George

Commander

Message From the Adjutant

It’s been a month since being installed to the Adjutant position. I attended the American Legion Department of Maryland convention in Ocean City in July with several other officers of the post. Unfortunately there were few other members of the post that attended.

At our post we will be having some events which require your support to be successful. Please ask the newly elected 2nd vice-commanders of the Legion, SAL and Auxiliary what help they need to make their jobs easier. The Community Picnic and SAL Crab Feast are scheduled and we need your support.

There are several ways to communicate with your post officers: We have an empty suggestion box waiting for your valued comments. This coming year I will be monitoring the suggestion box. Please submit your suggestions, comments and/or complaints. I will reply to all ASAP. You may contact me at 410-757-4983 for any Legion related business. Send me E-mail at our post email address if you wish. Be sure to include my name in the Subject box.

We want you to get involved and to enjoy the benefits of the post. Think about renting the remodeled dining hall for your parties meetings or receptions.

Check our newsletter calendar for dates and times of post activities.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer.

Thanks again for your support.

Richard L. Bonnett

Adjutant

Chaplain

Hope you all celebrated our nations birthday in a happy and safe way. Labor Day will be here before we know it. Drive safely this summer. We need you in the Legion.

Fellow Legionnaires Francis R. Smith and Sidney S. Doll have been called to Post Everlasting since our last newsletter. Please remember them and their families in your prayers.

The next blood drive will be the second Monday in September (the 8th). Every pint of blood given can benefit up to three people in need of life saving plasma, platelets, or serum. Please give the gift of life by signing up on the bulletin board near the front door.

September is also the time we remember the terrorist attack on our country. As you read this, pause for a moment of silent prayer for all those affected by that terrible attack. Also, remember our men and women serving in the armed forces throughout the world who are sacrificing so much to protect our freedom and safety. Our prayers can make a difference.

I talked to Ed Sadowski recently. He is at home still recovering from orthopedic surgery. I’m sure he’d like to hear from friends, by either a phone call or a card.

Please let me know of anyone in the hospital or ill at home. Thanks.

Chaplain's Message

I have been elected to serve the Auxiliary as Chaplain this coming year. It will be tough to fill the shoes of Barbara Schneider who has so graciously served as Chaplain for the past five years.

I'd like to give a brief introduction about my family and myself. I became eligible for the Auxiliary first through my father Ed Anderson, and then joined Unit #175 under my husband Andre’ Milot. I have two children: a daughter, Linda who is 17 years old, and a son, Bryan who is 15 years old. They both attend Severna Park High School. I work for a company called Baltimore Aircoil Company located in Jessup. I am a member of Woods Memorial Church in Severna Park. Andre' has two daughters and two grandchildren that live in Virginia. Andre' works for J.C.Erlich Company located in Millersville. He is the 3rd Vice Commander of our Post.

Some brief notes to keep you updated...

Congratulations to all of our members who have celebrated birthdays recently. The month of July was filled with 21 in all!

I am always available to send a card if anyone wants to call me with news of any of our member's celebrations or illnesses. Please call me if you know of anyone who is unable to get out and would like a visit from our Auxiliary. My phone number is (410) 315-8349.

Peace & God Bless,

.Stacey Milot

Chaplain

Membership

Congratulations to all our newly elected officers (some new and some who are continuing to do an excellent job). Let’s all help them to do what needs

to be done.

The American Legion Convention has come and gone. As usual, membership is on the top of the list of things to do.

Our Unit has done so well this past year. We are hoping to do even better for the year of 2004. Make a list of all female members in your family and try to recruit at least one person.

A great big welcome to our new members-Carol Potak , Christine Seeley, and Loretta Milot.

The membership theme for the New Year is "Dancing the Night Away". We in Southern Maryland District are "The Mexican Hat Dancers".

The notices for 2004 dues will be out shortly. If you have already paid your dues, just disregard the notice.

Regina Bachman

Chairman

NOTICE

Internet Access

Post WEB Page is now available for your use. Please remember that it is currently "Under Construction". I think you will be pleased with what you see when you access it. The Webmaster is Gail Helm of our Auxiliary. Thanks Gail for all your superb efforts in getting this excellent communications tool available to us

The web page may be accessed under www.legionpost175.org

Please let Gail know through the web page response section what your thoughts are for articles/ access methods/format changes that you feel you would like to see included.

One thing we will be doing is to inform everyone of changes /omissions/errors from the Newsletter in a timely manner. This is rather than needing to wait for the next bi-monthly issue of the Newsletter.

The web page can present things that the Newsletter cannot. These are COLOR pictures from events at the Post, hyperlinks to articles of interest from National and Department etc. etc.

Please feel free to access the web page NOW.

CONTINUE to use the process below for E-mail and Internet Access.

Please remember the Post E-mail is intended for Post business. This includes any correspondence requesting information from the Post or to notify the Post of information.

When sending e-mail to the Post please include in the subject line the following:

Attention of: Name or Officer position

Your Name

Brief description of subject

We have been requesting notification of E-mail addresses for about a year or more in each issue of the Newsletter. So far we have received 37 responses. We are looking at this as a way of cutting costs in distribution and copying of the Newsletters. The savings would amount to approximately $250.00 per month.

If you have an E-mail address and would be willing to receive your copy of the Newsletter through E-mail please send in your e-mail address. This should also eliminate the "lost in the mail" newsletters that occasionally get reported.

The sooner we get this information the sooner we can have two way electronic communication between the Post and membership. We need your help to start preparing NOW.

Please submit (E-mail, Regular mail, phone, or give it to the bartender)

A Note of Appreciation

I would like to express the gratitude of my family to the members of Post 175
for their support during my dad’s brief illness. We especially appreciate the support
and kindness shown to us when Dad passed. It was extremely gratifying to see how
many friends he had at the Post that showed up to pay their final respects to him.
He will always live in the hearts of those who truly love him. Thank you all.

Kathy and family
