At our May meeting we will
hold elections. Choosing officers for
your Post is one of the most important functions we have as members. You need to attend to show support for those
who have stepped up to the plate and vote for the person you think can do the
job. If you are willing to fill one of the officer positions of the Post see
the nominating committee. The nominating committee members are Danny Byrd, Ed
May and Jim Ford.
This is my last article as
your commander. For the past two years your Executive Board and several key
members of the Post have worked very hard on the daily operations and on the
different programs of the Post and The American Legion. My hat is off to all of
you working patiently and sometimes not so patiently with me. It has been a
great two years serving the Post.
To all the volunteers, we
could not have done anything with out you. A Great Big Thanks.
Please remember all our
service members serving around the world and at home in your prayers.

Comrades, we were
unable to obtain enough renewals from our membership to receive the Outstanding
Commanders Cap Award or Jacket for 2006. However, we are well on our way
to obtaining Four Star Status. Again, the Post needs all the members to help in
obtaining our membership goals, please assist us by calling a member who has
not yet paid his or her dues this year or sign up a new member to help our Post
grow. I appreciate every member who has paid his or her dues and
especially want to thank all of the members who have actively participated in
the membership drive for 2006. Keep up the good work!

Springtime is
here and summer is closely following.
It’s a time for vacations and fun.
But when I think of the month of May there comes to mind two very
significant holidays. The first is
Mother’s Day which comes this year on May 14th. It is a day to honor our mothers and in many
cases, such as mine, it is a day of remembrance of the most important person in
our lives. I heard a story of a teacher
who gave her second graders a lesson on magnets. The next day she tested them by asking: “My
name has six letters, the first one is M.
I pick up things. Who am I?” 50 percent of the students answered with the
word “MOTHER.” Mothers do pick up
things, but they have a much higher calling than that. She is a person who loves her family and
provides an atmosphere of acceptance, security and understanding. I think that in the gospel of John, this
apostle says it best in John chapter 16 and verse 21: “A woman giving birth to
a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she
forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.” In Deuteronomy
A second
significant day in May is Memorial Day.
This is a day to remember and honor those comrades of the past who have
served this nation and preserved the freedom and prosperity we Americans now
enjoy. Abraham Lincoln said that no
words can add to or detract from their sacrifice. We go to funerals to grieve with those left
behind. On Memorial Day we remember
those who have already made it home. Not
in a box, not in a picture frame, but really themselves. Alive.
At home. At peace. On Memorial Day we remember and give thanks
to the Lord for those who have gone on to dwell with Him in peace and joy
forever.
Since our last
newsletter I must sadly report the loss of several of our comrades who have
gone to Post Everlasting. I like to
think of it as their final transfer orders to the Headquarters of the Supreme
Commander. These comrades are Bill
Lipham, Patrick Dionne, and Earl Anderson, Jr.
They will be greatly missed and our heartfelt condolences to their
families. SICK LIST: Comrade Joanne Dionne spent some time in the
hospital for a bout with pneumonia, but as of this writing she is home and
recovering well. Comrades Edward
Allenbaugh and Bill Izzo also spent a few days in the hospital and are now
home. Comrade Jonathan “Buck” German is
at Future Care nursing home. At last
visit he appeared to be doing okay.
Others mentioned before are Richard Cummings, Ralph Clark, and Dan
Jordan. Keep these comrades in your
prayers.
Please call the
Post or me if you know of someone who is in the hospital or ill. God bless all of you.
